It's no longer called It's A Small World. The iconic Disneyland ride is now known as It's A Small World (With Groot) in honor of its latest addition.
Guardians of the Galaxy member Groot is now a temporary fixture in the ride at Tokyo Disneyland. Or, Baby Groot, to be precise. The tree-like being is portrayed in his younger form, which is just a few inches high.
That makes him perfect for an appearance in the ride, which takes guests on a whirlwind tour of global landmarks at a fraction of the size of their real-world counterparts. It's not just one appearance though, but multiple.
As seen in a Twitter video, fully modeled and animated Groot animatronics show up playing a bugle as part of the Buckingham Palace Beefeaters, riding a gondola in the ride's recreation of Venice, and even presenting cherry blossoms to Mantis and Gamora in Japan. He's not alone, either.
Groot looks to be having the time of his life spinning on a saucer with a similarly tiny Captain America, showing off his dance moves with Doctor Strange outside the Taj Mahal, and clinging onto the foot of Captain Marvel as she flies through a charming scene set in Mexico. It's a fully fledged Marvel takeover.
There are also cameos by Thor, who shows up in a stormy scene with Groot who's holding an umbrella, a miniscule Ant-Man and The Wasp, who Groot spies through a magnifying glass, and fellow Guardians of the Galaxy Star-Lord and Nebula, who are playing musical instruments.
It's A Small World is a water-based dark ride located in Fantasyland at Tokyo Disneyland. The Marvel incursion debuts January 15, 2025, and is set to last six months, with a closing date of June 30. Disney may own Marvel, but it's the first time Marvel characters are featuring in an attraction at Tokyo Disneyland.
It's Groot's small world - we're just living in it.
